2012 RX-8 - Join the Rotary Revolution
The Mazda RX-8 is manufactured by the Mazda Motor Corporation and was originally launched in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show. The Mazda RX-8 arrived in Canada as a 2004 model, replacing the Mazda RX-7 which was discontinued in 2002. The Mazda RX-8 features a 1.3L RENESIS Rotary engine with 232HP. The first rotary engines were introduced to Canada in 1971 with the Mazda R100 and continued with the Mazda RX-2, RX-3, RX-4, RX-5 and three generations of the Mazda RX-7.

Not only has the Mazda RX-8 won 'Engine of the Year' twice and "Coupe of the Year" two years in a row. But it has also been awarded over 30 international motoring awards, the 2003 Car of the Year in Australia and Japan. In 2004 it won the Best Sports Car in the US and Singapore and multiple UK Best Car Awards.
The first generation of the Mazda RX-8 was produced in 2003 with a SE3P chassis The 4-port RENESIS engine produced 197HP and was available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The 6-port high power RENESIS was only available with a six-speed manual transmission 238HP.
Starting in 2005 Mazda begun with a line of Special Edition RX-8 starting with the RX-8 Shinka which included 18" rims and leather seats, there was a limited production of 1357 units manufactured. In 2006 Mazda launched a special edition for the UK, the Mazda RX-8 Evolve and later that year the RX-8 PZ. The Mazda RX-8 Nemesis was designed in 2006 but finally launched in 2007 and was only available in Copper Red Mica and Stormy Blue Mica, it also included a nine-speaker BOSE audio system, 6-CD auto-changer, and a black leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear shift and hand-brake lever.
In 2008 a 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mazda RX-8 arrived in Canada and the US, with a different model being released in Japan. In 2004 at the North American International Auto Show, Mazda unveiled the RX-8 Hydrogen RE concept car, designed to run on either hydrogen or gasoline.
The 2012 Mazda RX-8 is a redesigned second generation model which was released in 2009, with several body reinforcements, improving the rigidity of the front suspension. The rear suspension was also improved by reconfiguring the suspension geometry. The 2009 RX-8 is also lighter than the previous version. The Mazda RX-8 R3 Edition was introduced in 2009 with high-performance tires, 19" aluminum-alloy wheels and Bilstein shock absorbers. That same year at the Tokyo Auto Show Mazda displayed the Mazdaspeed RX-8 Circuit Trial Edition, with the Mazdaspeed body kit for the new RX-8, featuring upgraded brakes, suspension and larger aluminum wheels.
